History and character

Mac-Talla means 'echo' in Scottish Gaelic and refers to the historic bond between the Morrison family and Islay across generations. Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, led by Jamie and Brian Morrison, revives that connection through a collection that interprets different sensory landscapes of the island; Mara takes as its axis the collision between the Atlantic Ocean and the rugged coastal land.
Mara represents the most untamed side of the Mac-Talla range. It does not seek to temper Islay's peat with secondary wood embellishment, but to expose its coastal, fiery and mineral pulse with a frank, muscular and highly expressive style.
